Micky van de Ven Double Ends The Toffees' Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of the field

Following a drab weekday display in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.
