Thousands Left Without Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Powerful Weather Systems

Approximately 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast found themselves lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the state, bringing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Locals witnessed giant hailstones as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units activated to manage the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Weather Woes

At the same time, approximately 1,000 residents in Victoria also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations handled nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along much of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across various areas of both states.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
